Earlier this month, we reported on the latest version of RPCS3 that brought major performance improvements in Naughty Dog's PS3 games. And, from the looks of it, RPCS3 can almost run The Last of Us as good as the Playstation 4.
RPCS3 PS3 Emulator Update: The Last of Us and Uncharted 3 now go in-game, many games now playable. September 24, 2018. They also fixed crashing in the opening scene of The Last of Us. I finished The Last of Us Part II over the weekend. It was fine, but some aspects of it really rubbed me the wrong way. I just don't understand what narrative purpose it served for Tommy and Maria to be a married couple. They talk about their marriage and how they seperate at the end.
YouTube's ‘illusion' has shared the following comparison video between the RPCS3 and the PS4 Pro versions. Both of them were running the game with 60fps (which means that the PS4 version was using the 1080p/60fps preset). However, the RPCS3 version was not running in real-time. For the time being, PC gamers can get 30-50fps on high-end Intel CPUs (with some spikes to 60fps). So yeah, we are almost there.
Please note that you can only use this method if a.ird file is available online for the decryption of the disc. Not every Blu-ray drive will recognize PlayStation 3 titles due to how PlayStation 3 format discs are designed. Requirements for a Blu-Ray drive to be able to fully read PlayStation 3 discs are: Mediatek chipset and a +6 read offset. Most of the files in the megathread are in Drive and neither of the Google bypass methods works. The one described in the ROMs megathread doesn't work, as once you get the shortcuts on your Google Drive, downloading the folder get stuck in compressing file forever. Naughty Dog's The Last of Us was one of the best rated PS3 exclusives that launched at the end of the console life cycle. It held the record for the most Game of the Year wins until The Witcher.
Now as we've already reported, the latest version of RPCS3 disables some graphics effects. For instance, Depth of Field is completely disabled on RPCS3. There are also some stability issues, and the 'listening' feature does not appear to be working properly.
I also noticed some issues with the distant shadows in RPCS3 (that are not present in the PS4 Pro version). My guess is that Naughty Dog has increased the shadow cascade in the Remastered version, which explains why the distant shadows are not that pixelated.
What's also interesting to note is that the main character appears to be sharper in the RPCS3 version. So yeah, it's pretty cool witnessing some visual improvements that the PS3 emulator brings to the table over the PS4 version.

RPCS3 is a free and open source PlayStation 3 emulator that currently supports a nice selection of PS3 titles as well as homebrew applications originally created for jailbroken consoles.
The emulator has come a long way since its humble beginnings to become a pretty impressive team effort in developing support for a growing list of PS3 titles so that they may be played on a PC.
The stability of RPCS3 is usually pretty good, especially for some of the more well-known ROMs that have received additional attention from the development community.
Supports DS3 and DS4 controllers, or mouse and keyboard
The stability of RPCS3 is usually pretty good, especially for some of the more well-known ROMs that have received additional attention from the development community.
Supports DS3 and DS4 controllers, or mouse and keyboard
As with most emulators of this type, the application has support for DualShock 3 and DualShock 4 controllers connected to the PC. It may work with other controllers depending on how the keys are mapped. Of course, if there's any issue with a game-pad, RPCS3 can also be used with keyboard and mouse.
In terms of playable ROMs, the program is generally used with game dumps of PS3 Blu-ray discs. This can be done on your own discs depending on what Blu-ray optical drive you have and whether it supports the types of discs the PS3 reads.

At the moment, only OpenGL is supported. You can modify aspect ratio of games, turn on framerate limiting, apply anisotropic filter, change game resolution and enable anti-aliasing depending on the graphics card.
Additional settings are GPU Texture Scaling, VSync, Stretch to Display Area, Write Color Buffers and Disable Vertex Cache. Resolution scale and scale threshold can be modified with a slider between minimum and maximum values.
